Top 4 Tips For Hot Lips

Beautiful lips are one of the most sought after attributes of a person. Think about any time you’ve had a first kiss—you instantly know if you like that person or not afterwards and a lot of this has to do with their lips. And when you don’t have healthy-looking lips (I instantly picture my Grandma Sally when I think about this), you notice it almost instantly. We asked both dermatologists and plastic surgeons what we can do to keep our lips looking young and healthy. Here are four top tips for you:

#4 Antioxidants

According to Plastic Surgeon Dr. Thomas Narsete, “Gravity and sun exposure causes your upper lip to actually grow over time due to skin laxity. It is one of the thinnest areas of skin on your body and is susceptible to a variety of factors.” One of the ways this happens is through free radicals. The best way to stop this? Use a lip balm that has antioxidants in it. Tip: Epionce recently came out with an anti-aging lip renewal which is chalked full of antioxidants. Check it out.

#3 Use a growth factor

There are some serums that come with lip-based growth factors. What do they do? They help with skin laxity. This happens because the growth factors tell the body to make more collagen. Collagen is an essential protein used in producing elastic, healthy skin. More collagen means nice and tight lips.

#2 Don’t smoke

“People that smoke are very susceptible to wrinkles and pre-mature aging” says Dr. Narsete. So even if you think sneaking a cigarette here and there won’t hurt, think again.

#1 Lip balm with sunscreen

While most of us don’t think of using sunscreen with our chapstick, we really should pay more attention to this when considering our lips. Why? “Lips and the ears commonly get diagnosed with skin cancer” says dermatologist Dr. Amy Paul. While that is a scary quote, the good news is you can get lip balm with sunscreen in it. Tip: try EltaMD  which has an inexpensive lip balm with SPF 31 in it.

Moving on

We have gone over four top ways to help keep your lips luscious and sexy. Quick recap: don’t smoke, use lip balm with sunscreen, antioxidants, and even growth factors. We hope we shed some light for you on maintaining healthy lips (and avoid looking like my Grandma Sally!) Just trying to help a girl out.

To luscious lips,
