Celebrity Beauty Secrets

"A woman is most beautiful when she smiles. Other than that, the most valuable tip I've learned is always use a skin moisturizer!" -Beyonce

What do all celebrities have in common?  They take care of their skin – really good care of it. If you think Jennifer Aniston or Nicole Kidman aren’t using multiple skincare products every day, you are sorely mistaken.  Knowing that, what are their secrets? Shhhhh……. we’ll tell you.

#1 They are on a customized skincare regimen

But let’s face it (pun intended), choosing a skincare regimen without a personal esthetician at your beck and call is tough.  The great thing is that there are thousands of beauty products out there.  The bad thing is that there are thousands of beauty products out there.  Even beauty industry insiders don’t know all the options. Luckily, there are great resources that can help you to create your own, personalized skin care regimen.

#2 They know their skin type

Everyone’s skin is different and has different needs. What Jennifer Aniston might be putting on her face might not be the best thing for your skin.  Generally, there are five types of skin:  normal, combo, oily, dry and sensitive. This might sound easy, and it is if you know what to look for.

The easiest way to figure out your skin type is to gently wash and dry your face. Wait twenty minutes or so and then feel your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) and cheeks. How does your skin react when you touch it?

*If it becomes red or irritated, it’s probably sensitive.

*Does your skin feel like it’s oily and/or do you regularly get acne breakouts? Chances are you have oily skin.

*Combination or “combo” skin usually has normal cheeks with an oily T-zone.

*If your skin feels normal and you rarely have skin concerns (breakouts, flakiness), you probably have normal skin type.

*Lastly, if it’s dry to the touch and flaky and you want to run for a vat of lotion, you have dry skin.

 #3 They wash their face

Washing your face morning and night should be a no-brainer. Jennifer isn’t going to bed with a full-face of makeup on.  Either is Nicole. Pick a face wash that matches your skin type. (see above).  Washing your face with a good cleanser will also help with the next step.

#4 Use serum and moisturizer

A good serum (tailored to your skin type) should be your next step which should then be followed with a moisturizer (for your skin type). Keep in mind all moisturizers and serums are not created equal. Supermodel Cindy Crawford actively talks about using serums with peptides and hyaluronic acid. Insider tip:  Medical grade skincare provides higher levels of active ingredients for best results.

 #5 They reapply sunscreen

Nicole Kidman attributes her great skin to staying out of the sun. We all get sun exposure (yep, even driving to your favorite brunch spot requires sun protection) so make sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30. Reapply it. Sunscreen is only good for approximately 2 hours; so, reapplication is a must.

Clearly, celebrities take care of their skin, and you should too! It’s the only one you’ll have. Take a minute to figure out your skin type, needs and maybe people will be writing articles about your skincare secrets…
