5 Glow-Worthy Tips for Back to School Skin

As with all good things, summer, too, must come to an end. With autumn days just around the corner, your skin may be looking a bit worse for the wear. If you maintain the same skin care routine year-round, you may be missing out on some key seasonal tips that can improve your glow game exponentially. Here are a few of our favorites for transitioning between seasons.

#5 Slough Off Summer

If you’re like most people, your late summer skin probably needs a little extra nourishment. But if you’ve tried switching to a heavier cream and haven’t seen results, chances are you need to exfoliate that top layer to allow hydration to get to the root of the problem. Exfoliating scrubs work great, but medical grade skincare that contains bilberry and sugar cane extracts naturally improve your skin’s texture while reducing unwanted pigmentation due to sun exposure. These products nourish your skin, remove dead skin cells, and help bring new, soft skin to the surface.

#4 Consider Adding Facial Oil

As the seasons change, the air in your area may become drier. Summer humidity may have contributed to your natural moisture levels, but dry, windy days can strip your skin in no time. Facial oils have come a long way, so consider adding one to your routine. They penetrate the skin deeply, so your moisturizer doesn’t have to work as hard. Not ready to use it straight? No problem. Try adding a drop of facial oil to your moisturizer or even your foundation. Sneaking in a little hydration goes a long way toward fighting off flakes.

#3 Shift from a Lotion to a Cream

One windy day can undo all your hard work in an instant, especially if you’re still relying on a liquid lotion. One way to tell if your skin needs more moisture is to see how it feels at lunchtime. If it feels tight or slightly itchy, your lotion has probably done all it can do. For the next few months, tuck that pump bottle under the counter and bring out a cream in a jar. Most cream products are more emollient and also more occlusive, which means they hydrate and create a barrier that traps moisture in the skin longer.

#2 Plump Up Overnight

Once your work day is over, it’s time to dedicate a little time to good self-care in the form of bonus treatments. If you’ve had a stressful day, take a 30-minute break and enjoy a sheet mask or mask pack. These treatments work in all sorts of ways. If you’re overheated, try slipping a sheet mask into the fridge for a few minutes before you put it on. Your body temp will drop a few degrees while you rest, and your face will appreciate the extra hydration. If peel-off or wash-off masks are more your style, work them in a few times a week to keep your pores clear and your skin glowing.

#1 Don’t Forget Your Lips, Hands, and Hair

Will all this attention to your face, you may accidentally forget about your body. Nighttime is perfect for a quick lip scrub (try DIYing one with brown sugar and coconut oil), just be sure to follow up with a hydrating lip product. As for those hands and even your hair, a little coconut oil works wonders. You can massage some into the ends of your hair before bed and wash it out in the morning.
