4 Reasons Men Should Wash Their Face

Posted by Dan Narsete on

"The older you get the stronger the wind gets - and it's always in your face." -Pablo Picasso

I get it. You’ve worked all day, you’re tired, and you just don’t feel like it. Washing your face can seem like a total pain. Is there a good reason to walk to the bathroom and wash your face? The answer is a resounding “YES!” and we are going to tell you why.

#1 bacteria

A recent study by the National Institutes of Health found a substantial portion of human respiratory tract infection is thought to be transmitted via contaminated hand contact with the mouth, eyes, and/or nostrils. This means you are getting viruses on your face that are making you sick. By washing your face, you can not only look better, but feel better by taking an important step in keeping yourself well.

#2 acne

For those of you who have beards, scruff, or any other type of facial hair, you need to pay attention. Your body attempts to keep the moisture in your skin at an equilibrium. Your skin is about 60% water and needs to maintain hydration and balanced PH levels. If your skin is dry the body will release sebum (oil) to compensate. The glands that release the oil are called sebaceous glands and are found under hair follicles. Uncleaned facial hair can be a magnate for acne causing bacteria and if it is not removed on a regular basis it will clog pores and create pimples. The Acne Academy explains that if the blocked follicle is close to the skin surface, it balloons outwards and forms a whitehead and thus a pimple.

#3 pollution

Have you ever thought about what pollution does to your skin? The short answer is it creates free radicals. Without diving into physics, free radicals destroy skin cells on an atomic level by starting a destructive chain reaction. Think about how much pollution we encounter on any given day. All of this in turn will cause you to age faster. By destroying healthy skin cells, your body must replace them. As we age it gets harder for the body to replace these healthy cells and your skin begins to sag. So, why expedite the process?

#4 looking good

Let’s face it. It feels good to wash your face. And I’m not saying you can’t miss here and there, no worries. In the same study by the National Institute of Health they found people touched their face an average 15.7 times per hour…that’s a lot! Let’s face it- not washing your face is just gross.

What to use
