Tips For Skincare During The Holidays

"The two most joyous times of the year are Christmas morning and the end of school.”         -Alice Cooper

It’s that time of year-- holiday parties, shopping, family gatherings, and (hopefully) snow. With the hectic schedule that comes along with this holiday season, we created the top four reasons why keeping up with your skincare regimen during the holidays is important.

The wind

If you live in a climate that has any level of wind it can really dry out your face. Dry skin then becomes sensitive skin which bring a whole bag of  unwanted issues. A fix for this is using a medical grade moisturizer. I can already hear you saying, “yea, yea, yea… I have used my moisturizer for years, what’s the big deal?” While you have used a moisturizer for longer than you can remember, have you ever looked at what’s actually in your moisturizer? Most store-bought moisturizers have filler-type material that don’t do anything for your skin. You’ve worked hard for your money, so why waste it on a product that doesn’t really address the problem? If you haven’t taken the plunge into the world of medical grade skincare, we suggest you give it a try. These products have been researched by physicians and medical professionals and have a proven track record of success. Pro tip: Try using Elite Fortified Moisturizer. It has vitamins A, C, and E which are powerful antioxidants. This moisturizer also contains both glauca root extract and glycerin which are great for keeping your skin hydrated.

The sun

It doesn’t matter if you live in northern Minnesota or southern California, you will get exposed to the sun. While the sun does help us produce needed things like Vitamin D, the sun is the #1 cause of aging. In a study published by the National Institute of Health, researchers found that the sun was responsible for up to 80% of pre-mature aging. If you think about it, sun rays are constantly bombarding our skin. While it might feel good when you are laying out on the beach, these rays destroy skin cells on a molecular level. Over time this damage has a cumulative effect and we start to age. As we get older, our bodies don’t produce cells as quickly as we did when we were young and boom: sagging skin. Pro tip: Try using Colorescience’s brush-on sunscreen. It’s a powdered sunscreen, has SPF 50 in it, and it takes about 30 seconds to put on. One bottle of it lasts up to 3 months too!

Humidity

Ever thought about how being in the mountains or at sea level effects your skin? Our skin has a natural equilibrium to it regarding moisture. This means that if live in a dry environment, you need to prepare with the proper regimen to keep your skin from drying out. On the flip side, if you live in a humid environment, watch out for acne development. Without the right type of cleanser, you could be creating a breeding ground for acne.

Moving on

Our hope for you after reading this article is that you can take some of these tips to use with you throughout the holiday season. Remember to watch out for the sun and use sunscreen regardless of where you live. Also take note of the quality of skincare you are using. As we mentioned, focus your efforts and hard-earned cash on medical grade products. If you need a place to look, we can help. Take a minute and look for yourself and let us create a personalized skin care system for you.

To great presents and good times,
