Friendship Day, August 6th

"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one." -CS Lewis

The official Friendship Day in the US is today, August 6, 2017. Okay, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “What does this have to do with skincare?” That’s a fair question. The truth is that part of friendship is sharing and helping others. Since we do share a lot on this blog, we thought it would be fitting to share some things with our friends (cough, cough… this means you).

Insider information

Since friends tell friends secrets we are gonna let you in on a few secrets in the skincare world. Here at Team Reflect, we love to read up on all the most current research regarding skin health and spread the love by sharing it with all of you. Recently we read an article published in the Journal of Dermatology and Drugs (a prestigious journal for Dermatologists about advances in hair loss treatments and collagen regeneration. Two of the larger areas of development in aesthetic medicine involve peptides and platelet rich plasma.

Peptides

We will continue to talk about peptides, as there is ongoing development with them to be used in the creation of new collagen. Why does this matter? Peptides are proteins that signal to cells to grow new collagen. And we like collagen. Collagen=happy, healthy skin. So, use serums with peptides in them. You can thank us later.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Big skincare companies such as Allergan are pouring money into developing treatments for hair loss. An emerging interest in the medical community is using your own serum (platelets) in a concentrated form to regrow hair. It’s done at a medical office where a nurse draws a small amount of blood then “spins” it in a small centrifuge. This will separate the platelets from the rest of the blood. The practitioners then re-inject it into the scalp. Super cool, huh? And crazy thing is it actually works!  We’re hearing all kinds of good things on this front, so stay tuned. Friends can keep secrets, right?

To friendship,

The Reflect Team
