“We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.” –George Bernard Shaw
As the second exclusive article for our blog readers we are continuing to weed out all the noise to bring you the best information out there!
The fountain of youth
Stem cells are a highly controversial topic. Governmental agencies, the press, scientists and all kinds of interest groups get involved in something that we all have inside us. Yes, you have stem cells in your body.
What is a stem cell?
Stem cells are blank slates. They can be pointed or directed to do certain functions depending on their environment. They are kind of like shopping carts during your favorite sale; if you point the cart towards groceries, you are grocery shopping. Make sense? We want stem cells to produce new collagen and tighten up our skin. Hooray for stem cells! The challenge is that most stem cells are produced when we are babies. But, not to despair. The next best thing is growth factors.
What is a growth factor?
Growth factors consist of different proteins that tell your cells to do things. Yes, they are like your boss. But a good boss. One that in this situation will help us with better looking skin.
We all have growth factors and recent new technology now comes in the form of medical grade serums. Through a lot of research and millions of dollars a few select pharmaceutical companies have created growth factors that when placed on the skin will direct skin cells to grown new collagen. Sound crazy? Welcome to our world!
What do I use?
You must be careful here as there is a lot of “snake oil” out there. Many companies only put either un-researched or very small amounts in their skincare. We feel that serums from companies like Innovative Skincare (IS) have solid products and solid reputations. It’s important that you don’t go and buy this stuff from a department store- it’s not gonna have much to it.
